On way to Triund, one will witness a beautiful forest of Oak, Deodar, and Rhododendron trees that look even more beautiful in the months of January and February, when a blanket of snow covers the entire forest. The path is well laid and you will not need a guide to get to the destination.
Along the route you will be able to view the Hanuman ka Tibba peak, which is the highest point of the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas. You may also come across mountain goats on your way. The terrain may not seem as lush as the other trails in Himachal Trekking, but the greenery is more calm and soothing.
Triund star-studded night sky is good enough reason to pitch a tent here for the night. Hire a two-man tent for about Rs 500 if you wish to stay the night up there.
If you don’t want to camp, there’s a guest house available at Triund, run by the Forest Department, which can be booked there directly, or at Dharamshala.

The trek doesn’t have to end at Triund:
The more adventurous can try hiking further to the Kareri Lake, where one will come across rock-cut caves to explore. There are no wild animals in the area, at least not during the day, so feel free to check the place out if you have the energy.
Snowline cafe is a small tea shop, 3km from Triund on the Indrahar Pass trail. This cafe affords a panoramic view of Indrahar pass and the Dhauladhars. A well marked yet narrow trail with a sheer drop leads to the cafe. This narrow trail becomes more treacherous in winters when the trail markers are often obscured by fresh snow and overnight ice makes this slippery.
This trek, especially after a fresh snowfall, is in a different league when compared with the trek to Triund. Tackle this trek, if you have the required winter trekking experience. One can rent bedding and stay at Snowline Cafe if it is open.
Trekking further, one will be passing through the Snowline Cafe and will reach Ilaqa Got, after around one hour from the cafe. In case, if one find it hard to manage camping ground in Ilaqa Got, will be guided back to the caves; overnight camping will be inside the cave.
